Streams, lakes and wetlands represent the intersection of the water table with the land surface. Surface water bodies control where groundwater discharges and how groundwater flow from recharge areas through the subsurface. A series of idealized 2D (plan-view) flow models simulated under different conditions (natural and stressed by pumping) and subsurface configurations (heterogeneities) are provided below.
