MAGNET RIVER SYSTEMS

Leveraging the ongoing global spatial revolution and new and exciting opportunities – from remote sensing and wireless sensor network technologies, to LiDAR, cloud communication, and advanced visualization and augmented reality – we introduce a Next-generation River Systems Modeling Technology, with unique tools for simulating and visualizing water flow and quality dynamics in natural river and other channels, including:
  • 1D and 2D steady or unsteady flow
  • bank overflows, 2D flood / inundation depths and extents
  • sediment transport/mobile bed computations
  • water temperature
  • water quality

Typical management applications include:
  • floodplain management and floodway encroachments analysis
  • bridge and culvert designs
  • levee systems
  • channel modification projects
  • dam breach analysis

The MAGNET River Systems platform is currently built on top of EPA’s Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) – a program widely used by the international water resources community – but is unique in that it is cloud-powered, georeferenced / map-based, visual interactive, and most importantly, data-enabled.

(Another version is under development that utilizes the US Army Corps of Engineers HEC-RAS software to model the hydraulics of water flow and water quality dynamics in river/channel networks.)

Data-enabled means MAGNET River Systems is live-linked to a high-resolution global database that is comprehensive, preprocessed, and makes use of intelligent scaling and multiscale data representations (e.g., Digital Elevation Models, land and soil conditions, climate, etc.). The data can be used directly for conceptual modeling / system visualization, numerical model development and calibration, and integrated design analysis.
