Water-Intensive Industries

Water has moved from a CSR side-program to material business risk — touching operations, capital planning, ESG disclosure, insurance underwriting, M&A due diligence, and community license to operate, all at once. MAGNET4WATER is the modeling infrastructure built for that convergence.

The 2026 pressure pattern
Disclosure

CDP, CSRD, SEC climate rule, TCFD — water disclosure is now mandatory, comparable, and audited. "Trust us" answers no longer pass.

Underwriting

Insurance carriers are pricing water risk into facility premiums. Re-underwriting cycles are surfacing exposures that were previously invisible to the balance sheet.

Operations

Drought-driven curtailments and plant shutdowns have moved from rare to recurring. Plant managers in stressed basins need quantitative answers, not assurances.

PFAS portfolio

For any facility that touched legacy materials, contamination liability is now a portfolio question — many sites, unequal in risk, finite remediation budget.

M&A diligence

Water due diligence is showing up in acquisition checklists at the same level as environmental indemnification. Quantitative answers about future water availability are required, not optional.

License to operate

Community pressure on shared aquifers and basins is no longer episodic. Regulators ask for evidence of stewardship; communities ask for transparency.

These pressures used to arrive sequentially. They now arrive simultaneously. The response cannot be sequential either.

What Sets MAGNET Apart

Not "cloud-based water modeling." Four architectural decisions that matter at portfolio scale.

🌐

One platform. Five water systems.

Intake from rivers and wells · process water through pressurized supply · discharge through drainage and receiving water · aquifer dynamics under the site · regulatory data fabric across the portfolio. Most vendors handle one or two of these and hand off the rest. MAGNET unifies all five — with documented mathematical couplings, not file exports between disconnected tools.

📐

Portfolio scale, not site by site.

The same engine that resolves a single facility scales to hundreds. The platform's recursive-statistics architecture runs ensemble realizations across sites with constant memory footprint — the screening / intermediate / deep analysis tiers all use the same engine, so methodology stays consistent from the first site to the thousandth. No bespoke contract per site, no methodology drift across the portfolio.

🎛️

Steerable, not batch.

Test a withdrawal-reduction scenario, a wastewater-recycling investment, a process-water reuse loop — the simulation responds while it runs, with streaming visual analytics that show consequences in minutes, not weeks of consulting back-and-forth. Operations teams ask their own questions and see their own answers — the modeling is no longer a quarterly external engagement.

🛡️

Defensible by construction.

Built on USGS MODFLOW, USDA SWAT, EPA SWMM, and EPA EPANET — the open-source, peer-reviewed engines that regulators expect and litigation requires. Every input has a traceable origin; every step a reproducible path. The same model that supports operations also withstands audit, regulator scrutiny, and opposing counsel.

Right physics for the question

A water-intensive operation touches five physically distinct systems. Most platforms force them into one engine. MAGNET uses the engine that fits each — coupled through documented handoffs of physically-meaningful quantities.

What MAGNET is — and is not

MAGNET4WATER is water-resource and contamination modeling infrastructure on federal-standard engines. It is not a process control or DCS system (Honeywell Experion, Emerson DeltaV, Yokogawa Centum, Siemens PCS 7, Rockwell PlantPAx), a plant-floor water mass-balance simulator (AVEVA Process Simulation, Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS), an OT-side data historian (OSIsoft PI System, AVEVA PI, Honeywell Uniformance), or an enterprise asset management system (SAP, Maximo). Those remain the operational-side technology stack that runs the plant. What MAGNET adds is the external-to-the-fence-line layer: source-water sustainability under climate scenarios, NPDES discharge analysis, contamination plume and source-attribution work, and the federal-engine methodology backbone the regulatory reporting, ESG disclosure, and litigation-defensible record now rest on.

Pain Points & MAGNET Solutions

1

Disclosure under audit

CDP, CSRD, and SEC climate-rule water disclosures now require quantitative answers traceable to defensible models — spreadsheets and qualitative assessments are no longer sufficient

MAGNET: Build the actual physics-based model of the water system at each facility — intake, process, discharge, aquifer — on industry-standard engines (MODFLOW, SWAT, SWMM, EPANET) that auditors and regulators recognize. The same model that produces operational forecasts produces disclosure tables and audit-trail-ready reports.

2

Drought-resilience capital planning

Plant managers in stressed basins need to know whether a recycling investment, an alternative source, or a process-water-loop will materially change drought-curtailment exposure — over a 10–30 year planning horizon

MAGNET: Run the basin-and-aquifer model under CMIP6 climate scenarios; place the proposed intervention; rerun. The streaming visual analytics show the consequence as the simulation evolves — not in weeks of consulting back-and-forth. Quantitative scenarios become a planning input, not a memo from outside.

3

PFAS portfolio triage

Many facilities, unequal in risk, finite remediation budget. Site-by-site engagement at consulting prices does not scale to portfolio-level decisions about prioritization, sequencing, and reserve adequacy

MAGNET: Screen every site at the same methodology level using the global preprocessed base — aquifer thickness, recharge, well-receptor distance, plume-direction tendencies all available without per-site data wrangling. Refine the high-risk sites with hierarchical submodels. Consistent methodology across the portfolio; depth where it matters.

4

M&A water due diligence

Target facilities sit on aquifers with histories you did not generate; insurance carriers and lenders increasingly require quantitative water-risk assessment before close

MAGNET: Draw a box anywhere on Earth — the preprocessed global base assembles aquifer geometry, surface-water network, climate forcing, and monitoring well data in minutes. Run a defensible 50-year forward scenario before the diligence window closes.

5

Community license to operate

Local groups challenge withdrawals on shared aquifers; regulators ask for evidence of stewardship; communities ask for transparency — not "the consultants say it's fine"

MAGNET: Publish the actual model and its assumptions to a secure observatory page — 3D visualizations, an AI-generated report grounded in the model file, live monitoring overlay. Stakeholders see the same evidence the operations team sees. Transparency becomes a strategic asset, not a regulatory cost.

6

Insurance re-underwriting

Carrier water-risk models are getting more sophisticated — and pricing premiums accordingly. Facilities without their own quantitative answer accept the carrier's risk score by default

MAGNET: Run your own facility-and-basin model on the same physics engines the carrier's modeling teams use. Negotiate from evidence, not from assurances. The same model supports operational planning, disclosure, and underwriting conversation in one consistent representation.

Strategic Value

Typical consulting engagements spend 60–80% of the work on platform overhead — data wrangling, model setup, format wrangling, projection mismatches, license keys. MAGNET removes that overhead. Built and operated by HydroSimulatics, who use the platform daily on consulting engagements worldwide, MAGNET delivers deeper analysis, more defensible answers, and value that compounds across the portfolio rather than reset with every new engagement.

For water-intensive operators, that translates concretely: reduce operational risk through earlier, quantitative scenario testing; support regulatory and disclosure obligations through industry-standard engines and reproducible audit trails; and improve resource efficiency through process-water, recycling, and source-diversification options tested in the model before they are tested on the ground.
