Borehole Simulation Results - CS-X Central Line

Workflow context
For the workflow context, see 📘 Results & Visualization

Once the TP Simulation is complete, a north-to-south (Y-direction) and west-to-east (X-direction) cross-section is extracted and automatically displayed in the IGW-NET modeling environment. In the cross-section you will see the material spatial variability (different color TP model cells) and the TP boreholes (skinny colored rectangles).

The simulation domain extends to the minimum elevation of the borehole dataset, or the minimum elevation of the bedrock surface underlying unconsolidated sediments (depending on the user input). The grayish-blue cells along the bottom are the parts of model domain where the simulated results do not extend (e.g., these cells might represent the bedrock below unconsolidated sediments).

The distance along the cross-section is shown along the x-axis (top and bottom of graphic) in units of meters. The cell index in the vertical (Z-direction) is displayed along the left-side of the graphic. Elevations (units: meters) are displayed along the right-side.

Draw Options

Clicking the red chevron ('>>') reveals additional TP cross-section draw options. Changes to the draw options will not take place until the 'Redraw' button is clicked.

Show BH - By default, the box next to 'Show BH' is checked so that the TP boreholes are shown in the graphic. Uncheck this box to hide the boreholes.

Show BH Name - Check this box to display the borehole Name / WellID in the graphic. By default, the borehole name is not shown.

BH width - The value in the text field next to 'BH width' controls the relative width of the boreholes. Increase the value to increase the width and vice versa.

Show up cells In some places in the model, the domain extends higher than the simulated spatial variability (e.g., where the top of the borehole is at a land elevation that is lower than the surronding area). To display these "no-value" cells and see the true model domain extent, check the box next to 'Show up cells'. By default, this box is not checked.

Show cell outline Check this box to add the grid lines / cell outline to the graphic. By default, this box is checked.

Material Colors

You will notice 4 colored buttons along the bottom of this menu subsection. These are the colors that will be used for the different categories upon visualizing the categorized boreholes and TP model results.

You can click on any of the buttons to change the category color. A small submenu will appear that allows you to select a new color. You can define the color with text inputs for RGB, HSL, and HEX formats, or you can use the color palette and slider to "manually" select a color.

New Cross-sections

While analyzing your TP model results, you can draw new cross-sections using the X-Section tool (Analysis Tools > X-Section). The tool works the same way as when it is used for analyzing a groundwater flow model: use the cursor to draw the cross-section in the map display, and click SaveShape (Conceptual Model Tools > SaveShape) to finalize the cross-section. A new TP cross-section chart will appear, showing the TP results along the new cross-section.

You can draw and analyze multiple TP cross-sections.
