Getting Started

SwaNET

Welcome to the SwaNET modeling platform. SwaNET brings SWAT modeling tool to the web for easier access and better visualization.

What is it?

SwaNET is a SWAT modeling platform that allows users to quickly build SWAT model, modify SWAT input parameters, calibrate the model, run simulations and visualize the outputs. Users can upload own SWAT model or select pre-processed SWAT models from SwaNET server.

Main features of the current version of SwaNET:
1. SwaNET provides multiple ways to build SWAT models. Users can upload own SWAT model or select pre-processed SWAT model from SwaNET server by clicking on Google map.
2. SwaNET contains pre-processed SWAT models that covers entire land mass of the earth except Antarctica.
3. Users can visualize the watershed/subwatershed boundaries on Google map. Output 2-D plots are also overlayed on to the Google map.
4. SwaNET provides a calibration tool that allows users to calibrate/validate model on the fly.
5. SwaNET allows users to plot input/output parameters on demand. Output plots are overlayed over the Google map for better analysis and ground truthing.
6. Input/output parameters are easily accessed. Users can simply click over a subbasin to view input parameter values and modify them. Additionally, user can also create output plots for selected subbasin.
7. Users can download key input/output SWAT files for further analysis.
8. Users can also create raster maps of input/output 2-D maps.
9. If a user wants to integrate SWAT model outputs with other groundwater tools available at SwaNET4Water, time series raster files are created for further processing.

How to use it:

To use the SwaNET, use the buttons on the left panel of the main SwaNET window.

Create SWAT Model

Click this button to create a SWAT project interactively. Users can either upload own DEM, landuse and soil map or can load them directly from SwaNET server. SwaNET server contains all the data required to create SWAT project anywhere around the globe.

Load SWAT File

Click this button to load a SWAT project. Users have options to create SWAT project at SwaNET by uploading existing SWAT project created with SWAT desktop version or select pre-processed SWAT project from SwaNET. Account verification at SwaNET is required to load a SWAT project.

Edit SWAT Databases

SWAT input parameters can be edited by clicking this button. This interface is similar to the SWAT Editor interface and allows users to modify SWAT input parameters in a similar way. Additionally, users can modify input parameter for specific subbasin/HRU by clicking on the subbasin number on the Google map.
New users may want to skip this step as editing specific SWAT input parameter requires expert knowledge.

Weather Data

Use this button to upload observed weather data. Users can upload precipitation, temperature, relative humidy, solar radiation, and wind speed data. Current version of SWAT allows only one file upload for each data type, but each file may contain up to 300 station data.

Calibration Helper

Calibration Helper is a unique tool to SwaNET that allows real time calibration and validation of SWAT model. Calibration is done one parameter at a time. Current version of SwaNET allows only streamflow calibration and modify 14 streamflow parameters. Calibration plots and statistical values are provided for each calibration run. User can update any of the parameter value.

Simulation Options

Through Simulation Options, users can select SWAT simulation time period and run SWAT. Users can also select optional output files, which will be available for download.

Result Visualization

This is one of the main feature of SwaNET. Users can create time series plots, bar chart, pie chart, and 2-D plots. SWAT input as well as output parameters can be plotted. 2-D plots can be customized for classification method, classes and schemes. Users also have control over how plots are overlayed over Google map. Finally, users can download main input/output files.

Save SwaNET

SWAT projects created at SwaNET can also be saved for later use. Users can save whole SWAT input parameters as a JSON file and shapes as zip file. These files can be directly uploaded to SwaNET for faster model building.

View Subbasin Information

Users can simply click on the subbasin number to view the information for that subbasin. Through this interface, user can view subbasin/HRU information, edit subbasin/HRU input parameter and plot subbasin/reach outputs.
