The philosophy of modeling with MAGNET is to very quickly set up and simulate a basic model - utilizing a complete set of default input values/datasets, default simulation settings, etc. – so that you can immediately get a sense of the “big picture” through built-in visualizations and chart analyses created “on the fly”. The basic model gives a screening-level prediction of flow patterns that can be improved by representing more geohydrological detail or changing the conceptual model based on the objectives at hand and the experience of the modeler.
The following sections explain the sequence of steps needed to set up, simulate, and visualize/analyze the calculated results from a basic model in MAGNET. Subsequent sections explain how to incrementally add more and more detail to the basic model.
