Real-time IGW-NET Help - Button Palette
Conceptual Model Tools
This tier of buttons is used for creating conceptual features such as polylines and zones/poylgons.DrawDomain
This button allows users to define the model domain as a rectangle or polygon, either interactively (point-and-click) or from a user file (txt or shapefile).DomainAttr
This button provides access to the Default Model Parameters and Options menu. This menu is used to:1) define the spatial framework and assign aquifer properties;
2) choose simulations settings (e.g., grid/layer settings, steady vs. transient flow, assign boundary conditions, etc.);
3) customize particle tracking and model output display options; and
4) perform other miscellaneous tasks (e.g., defining projection systems).
Wells
This button allows users to add/import a well feature(s) to the model domain. These can be used “monitoring wells” to view and compare model predictions with observations, or they be used to simulate pumping/injection at a point.Lines
This button is used for adding/importing and editing polylines (e.g., streams, injection trenches, etc.).Zones
This button allows to draw/import and edit attributes of zones.Layer
This button allows users to add or delete a geologic (hydrostraitigraphic) layer to the model.EditShape (Bing Maps only)
This button is needed when using Bing Maps as the background environment. There are slight differences in how a user adds and edits geometric features (model domain, zones/polygons, polylines) between the twoSee Section 4.4 of the User Manual for complete details.
SaveShape
This button is is used to finalize the creation of a polyline or zones created in the model domain.Simulation Tools
The following buttons used for executing a (simulating) a model created in the Map Display Work Area (MDWA).SIMULATE
Clicking the red ‘SIMULATE’ button initiates the process of the solving the groundwater equations for the domain created by the user.Please note that IGW-NET uses dialog popups to control requests to (and responses from) the server; if you leave the active IGW-NET browser tab after making a request (e.g., submitting a model for SIMULATION), you might miss a return dialog popup and the page status will appear "frozen" . Please allow the server some time to update the status bar or return a dialog box for further action.
ParticleTK
This button expands to a sub-menu that includes tools for particle tracking applications useful for visualizing flow paths and groundwater source areas.Forward
This button is used to run a transient simulation forward in time.Backward
This button is used to run a transient simulation backward in time (e.g., when performing backward particle tracking).Pause
This button pauses a transient simulation after solving the current time-step.Analysis Tools
This tier of buttons is used for creating and visualizing groundwater models.Analysis
This button allows users to:1) view model results in 2D and 3D graphical form (by clicking the 'Display Charts' option); and
2) display model parameter values (e.g., layer elevations, input recharge and conductivity values, etc.)
X-section
This button is used to draw a cross-section visualization and analysis along polylines within the model domain.Calibration
After model simulation is completed (in the case of steady state modeling) or paused (transient modeling), simulation head results (either for the steady-state flow field or the flow field of the current time step) can be compared to available observations by selecting the ‘Calibration’ button. In the State of Michigan, U.S.A., Static Water Levels (SWLs) can be extracted from the MAGNET4WATER server well database.Other Tools
This tier of buttons is used for managing user background images and model files, as well as hiding/showing model result overlays.SaveModel
This button allows users to save: a conceptual model; the latest solved water table; or the latest set of model results needed for subsequent submodeling.LoadModel
This button allows users to load a IGW-NET model file. This will open a sub-menu with two options:HideOverlay
When the simulation is completed/paused, the plan-view simulation results can be hidden from the display using the ‘HideOverlay’After the ‘HideOverlay’ button is clicked, it will become the ‘ShowOverlay’ button, which can be used to re-display the simulation results.
ResetModel
This button allows the user to reset, or clear the current model, from the Map Display Work Area (MDWA) so that a new model may be built.Utilities
This button provides access to a number of miscellaneous tools, including:- switching to 'synthetic case' mode
- locking and unlocking zone/polyline/cross-section node features for editing
- publishing your model to the Global Model Network
- uploading, overlaying, hiding, removing user background images; and
